Annual Membership is from 1 April 2023 till 31 March 2024 but Youth can join a club at any time of the year.

Find a Club Near You.

Youth Grades are U16, U18, U20

For 2023 Youth Age Grade is determined by registration as at 31.12.2023 age as in year of competition.

For 2024 some youth will change age grade as 31.12.2024 becomes the Grade determiner.

Upon competitive registration with a club; Youth will be given a competition number to wear during interclub events.  This number will change each season.

Athletes need to register online with Athletics Otago for all interclub events.  There is a $10 entry fee.

Unregistered High School athletes may enter interclub competitions under a one day registration at any time.  Leading up to NZ Secondary Athletics in December, entry is $10.  Thereafter it will be the standard $20 entry.

Winter Harrier Season

April to September

Many Youth participate in the Winter season along side other sports, and Harrier running has a long history of increasing base fitness.  There are multiple Secondary School events held throughout the Otago Region and OSSSA run a Cross Country Series for Dunedin schools which is a great way to get some racing in before NZ Secondary Schools Cross Country.

Many clubs offer social running groups who meet weekly or arrange social trips to attend races in other regions.  Just get in touch.  Running in a group is always more fun than running solo.

At Athletics Otago we have wonderful support from the Clubs who help to organise multiple Road, Cross Country, Trial or Relay events.

Follow the Athletics Otago Facebook Page to keep up to date with Interclub events or check out the Events & Entries Page.

Championship events include Otago Cross Country & Otago Raod Champs.  Athletes can be considered for NZ events.

Summer Track & Field Season

October 2023 to March 2024

At club level, many Youth join independant training squads at their local track or school where they get to socialise with Youth from other clubs.

A number of clubs offer financial incentative for Youth to coach the next generation of athletes by taking 'Get Set Go' or 'Run Jump Throw' sessions on club night.

Athletics Otago run an Interclub competition from the Caledonian Ground most Saturdays where Youth join the Senior competition.  We are fortunate to have Graded Officials at most of our meets and Youth have multiple opportunities to see their name in print and keep track of personal best performances.  Refer to our Results Page.

All results are forwarded onto Athletics NZ who maintian U18 & U20 Rankings at a national level. There is much excitment when an athelte makes this list.

Championship Events include Combined Events & Otago Champs.
