Brent has been coaching athletics for nearly 40 years. He coaches athletes from secondary school age through to masters, competing locally at a social level up to international world class competitions. Brent has a Level 3 Athletics New Zealand qualification in sprints-relays as well as Level 2 qualifications in most events.

Chris grew up in South Africa, where he trained with some of the country’s elite runners. His career started as a high school mathematics teacher and athletics coach. He now works as a physiotherapist and owns his own practice in Maori Hill.

Joan has been coaching athletics for many years in Otago. She has a Bachelor of Sport and Exercise, Graduate Diploma in Advanced Physical Conditioning and a Master of Physical Education. She also has many Athletics New Zealand coaching qualifications and teaches a Level 1 and 2 Athletics New Zealand coaching courses for new coaches. Joan’s speciality is jumps and conditioning.

Accredited to the Femmi Theory platform  in supporting and empowering women in sport.

Location: Dunedin

Lydia began competitive running at the age of 8 and through her knowledge and lived experience in the sport, can assist and guide female distance runners of any level, and their coaches, with the ages and stages of womanhood in the sport. Lydia also has experience in assisting with health issues that can be encountered; such as, REDs, mental health, injury as well as running during preconception, pregnancy and postnatal.

Lydia has a Bachelor of Physical Education supplemented with Sports Psychology and Nutrition studies.

Meet Coach Simon

He knows what it takes to become the best you can be as a runner. He has been on that exact journey from non-runner to Master’s (50+) competitive athlete. As a successful Master's age group athlete, Simon's recent achievements include: 2023, the Otago Master’s Men (50+) title for Cross country, 10K road run and winning his age category in the Dunedin Half Marathon. In 2024, the Otago title for 10k and the National New Zealand Masters title for 5k. This journey over 5 years was not possible without coaching.  So, if you want to run but do not know where to start or are already a regular runner but want to improve, then get in touch.

Simon, uses a private online training platform to deliver specific, tailored training plans for longer distance events (5k, 10k, half and full marathon) as well as 1:1 coaching. These plans are proven, flexible, structured and progressive and do not rely on face to face sessions, which busy people find hard to fit in.  

In addition to adult run coaching, Simon runs a well-attended Middle Distance (for 10-14 year olds) training group every Monday and Thursday 4pm, from the Hill City-University Clubrooms. Club membership is not a prerequisite.

Almost fully retired now, and based in Wanaka after 44 years in Wellington, I have coached athletes at national and international for more than 40 years of the last 47.  A member of the select Athletics National Coaching Committee from 1977-1983, I was head coach (at age 34) for a NZ overseas team, a specialist National jumps coach (e.g. preparing horizontal jumpers for the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games), and a coach at the 1990 Auckland Commonwealth Games.  Athletes coached - in jumps, sprints and hurdles - have won some 150 NZ national titles at NZ and NZ Secondary Schools level, with more than 40 having represented NZ.  I mainly coach track athletes from the Aspiring Athletes Club, but don’t limit my coaching to just this one club.

Sue has a back ground in middle distance running and has completed CAD Level 1 Courses in Sprints/Hurdles & Jumps. 

Squads are open to High School aged athletes who are keen to improve all round athletics skills.  For Grade 6 to 12 you will find Sue at the North Otago Club offering coaching in Run Jump Throw or early technical.
