The Otago 5km Road Championships will be held on an out and back circuit on the shared pathway starting and finishing on Magnet Street. The start/finish area is opposite the Otago Rowing club building.

Race Entry Information

  • Entry to all races is open to club and community runners and walkers.
  • These races will be held under the World Athletics (WA) Technical Rules & Athletics New Zealand (ANZ) Supplementary Rules for out of stadia events.

 

  • The Otago Race Walking Road Championships will be held on a 1 km course on the shared pathway beside Magnet Street. Distances will vary depending on age group – with the longest distance being 5km. These races will be held under World Athletics race walking rules.

 

  • Championship titles will be awarded to Athletics Otago registered competitive athletes.
  • Club uniforms are to be worn.

 

  • Team’s Races: In all grades the first three Athletics Otago registered competitive athletes from the same club to finish will count for the team’s race.

 

  • Open 5 km run and walk: Certificates will be awarded for these events. They are not championship events. The open 5km walk is not judged but all entrants are expected to walk the entire distance. Running, if observed in the open 5km walk, may lead to disqualification.

 

  • Ages are taken as at 31 December 2026 except that Masters ages are on the day.
  • Masters Age Grades will be 35-49; 50-64; 65+. Masters results will be displayed in 5 year age grades.

 

  • All entries are to be done online via Athletics Otago website athleticsotago.co.nz  Online entries close on Thursday 13th August at midnight. Entries will be received after this time on payment of a $10 late fee.

Toilets: There is a toilet close to the start/finish area on Magnet Street.

Club Marshals: Three people per club required - reporting time at the finish line 1.15pm although some people will be helping with the racewalk and will be required to report at 12.45pm.

Medal & Certificate Presentations will be held at the completion of all the events at the Caledonian Ground Function Room (the top of the grandstand). Medals will be awarded to the first 3 registered competitive Athletics Otago finishers in each championship age group. Certificates will be awarded to the winning team in each age group and the placegetters in the Open 5 km Run & Walk.
